New Cut Deck Character Art: Aaron and Eddie Earbuds Scene

Aaron and Eddie from Cut Deck by @kaalogii_

I’m very excited to announce some brand new character artwork from Cut Deck, the second book in the Lone Player trilogy! Huge thanks to @kaalogii_ on Instagram for doing such an amazing job of depicting Aaron and Eddie!

This scene is very close to my heart and one of my favorites in the entire book. After Aaron gets in that fight with Beau, Eddie follows after him, and when she tries getting him to open up, they have an argument.

But of course, Eddie is incredibly stubborn, and she refuses to leave him alone while he leans against his tree, brooding with his earbuds in. And of course, Aaron’s not really mad at her. Eventually he gives her an earbud, and they can’t help but tap their feet to Headache by Frank Black, and before they know it, they’re “spinning around and laughing like idiots” to a song only they can hear.

I love this part, because just for a moment, they got the chance to remember that they’re still kids. They got to experience a few fleeting minutes of guilt-free joy in a world that forced them to grow up too quickly.

And, of course, we get a ton of tension and longing when their foreheads touch after the song ends ;)
