First Character Fanart for the Lone Player Trilogy
I’m super stoked to announce that I was tagged in our very first character fanart for the Lone Player trilogy! The lovely @lorispam999 on Instagram shared a stunning sketch of Aaron and words cannot describe the smile this put on my face!
I think getting fanart is one of the most exciting parts of being an author. It makes you feel so warm and fuzzy inside to know that readers are connecting with your characters and thinking about them beyond the pages.
This piece is also super special to me because I’m pretty sure it’s the first character fanart post I’ve been tagged in…like ever! I almost cried because it feels like such a historical moment and it really reassured me that this is what I’m supposed to be doing.
While writing this, I’m currently in the editing trenches for Draft 2 of Deadwood Burning, and as I’m sure most authors can relate to, editing is one of the most stressful parts of the process for me. It takes so much brain work to dissect your own story and come up with solutions for flaws that you know need fixing, but can’t quite figure out how. Also, as a dystopian writer, DB is particularly hard for me to work on, because even though this is based on an idea born from a 12 year old’s uneducated imagination on a random Tuesday back in 2016, so much of it feels relevant to what’s going on in the world right now…and it’s a lot of pressure.
The editing process is usually what draws out my imposter syndrome the most. I spend so much time reworking the same sections that I convince myself my books are gibberish. I also end up wondering if other authors have to work so hard to get their stories ready for publication. It’s a lot and it’s stressful and sometimes you end up asking yourself if you’re really cut out for this career at all.
But seeing this post pop up on Instagram gave me some much needed reassurance! It truly is my readers who keep me going. Every kind gesture and message literally means the world to me and I just don’t have the right words to express how grateful I am for each and every one of you.
So yeah :) Thanks for reading my stories and thank you for your support! I love you all.
Xoxo,
Julia
